Cooking foods to a temperature that will kill any harmful bacteria such as Campylobacter is important to prevent illness. This particularly applies to cooking poultry to the correct safe eating temperature.

Simply insert the special sensor tip into the cooking food and a strong colour change will show when the food is “cooked” and safe to eat. For Poultry, Steaks, Burgers, Sausages, Lamb, Pork and Fish. Ideal for BBQ’s.

Available with thermochromic sensor tips which are irreversible single-use only, or as re-usable sensors.  Single use food safety temperature probes are used to test cooking temperatures or when food is reheated, and in restaurant chains, schools, hospital kitchens and on air flights. Re-usable probes are usually for home use, and particularly helpful for checking barbeque food such as chicken and sausages. Bacteria and viruses are the most common cause of food poisoning. The symptoms and severity of food poisoning vary, depending on which bacteria or virus has contaminated the food. During cooking, heat energy transfers into and breaks down proteins in the food. Cooking also causes the proteins in bacteria to break up so they no longer function and the bacteria die. This is why cooking removes the risk from harmful bacteria that are sometimes in some food.  Above 60°C the bacteria start to die. Time and temperature are both important because proteins need to be heated up for a long enough time for them all to be broken down.

Standard advice is to cook food until it has reached at least 70°C and stayed at that temperature for 2 minutes.  Using a food safety temperature probe is a safe and easy way to check this temperature has been achieved.
