SEE THINGS DIFFERENTLY – LIQUID CRYSTAL FOR THERMAL MAPPING

Thermosmart® Liquid Crystal sheets are used for various types of thermal mapping.

These thermochromic liquid crystal sheets change colour when influenced by changes in temperature, demonstrating a difference in temperatures and provide an exciting way to see thermal mapping changes through colour.

The sheets are a valuable resource for teachers to use in Key Stages 1 through to 4 to demonstrate; CONDUCTION, INSULATION, CONVECTION, RADIATION, FRICTION and many other experiments involving temperature change.

Often you cannot see when one item is getting hotter or colder, because it has not visually changed.  And you cannot  ‘see’ heat or cold radiating from an item or a space.

Thermal Mapping or Temperature Mapping is a process by which the invisible differences in temperature are translated into visible colours. Using heat mapping cameras you can see how well insulated a building is, or where heat is escaping, which is increasingly important in reducing winter heating energy usage.

Liquid Crystal for thermal mapping is easy with our thermochromic Thermosmart® liquid crystal sheets.  Thermochromic liquid crystal sheets change colour and allow you to demonstrate the difference in radiated heat from three similar items, looking the same but at three different temperatures, cold ambient and hot. Hotter areas on the liquid crystal sheet will be different colours to colder areas.

And you can visually show the difference that insulation can make when placed around a hot cup.
